Sooner Unit #167 Board of Directors
Home of Ken and Linda Dekker
President Ken Dekker called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Those present were President Ken Dekker, Vice President Shirley Shaddix, Treasurer George Craig, Secretary Hillary Henry, Chairman of the Board Linda Hughes, Kay Wallace, Ron Henke, Wendell Williams, Janet Stein, Shelba Parmley, Jo Woolery, Colleen Bicket and Jan Waddle.
Linda Hughes made a motion to approve the minutes from the June 16, 2009 meeting. Second, Jan Waddle. Motion approved.
Directories
Hillary Henry will send the digital file of the larger print directories to Linda Dekker. Linda will make 200 copies.
Fall Sectional Tournament Report
Fran Petrusawich will run the partnership desk for the Fall Sectional. Linda Dekker will offer labels for registrants. The Friday evening meal (sloppy joes) will be prepared and served by Ken Dekker. The Saturday evening meal, catered by Steve Fossey, will be a Mexican casserole with a salad. Friday and Saturday’s lunch will include sandwiches and potato chips, pickles, etc. The Sunday Swiss meal, catered by Steve Fossey, will be ham with green beans and potatoes. Kay Wallace will bake cakes to be served as dessert. The drink of the day, served between the afternoon and evening sessions, will be beer and wine (Friday) and margaritas (Saturday). An open bar will be available after the evening sessions. Iced tea will be served with lunch.
A motion was made to contribute $100 on Eric Bell’s behalf to the Accelerated Education Association. Kay Wallace, Second. All in favor. Motion accepted.
Election
A sign-up sheet for the Unit Board will be posted in all bridge studios. October 8 is the deadline to sign-up to be included on the ballot. Hillary Henry will prepare the ballot and send to Linda Hughes to be printed. Jack Killough will bring the ballot box to the tournament site. Linda Hughes will provide people to count the ballots. Voting will be held before and after the afternoon and evening sessions on Friday and Saturday of the Fall Sectional.
There will be a membership meeting prior to the Saturday evening session. The agenda will include voting on the bylaw change.
A motion was made by George Craig to honor Lucille Brinley in naming this year’s fall sectional the Lucille Brinley Fall Section. Ron Henke, Second. Motion accepted. Lucille will receive frees plays for any event she plays in this sectional.
Treasurer’s Report
The unit game earned $800
Total assets: $61,737.41
Total income: $10,978.20
It was determined that if an incident occurs at the bridge table, a formal complaint must be filed if the unit is to act upon the complaint.
A 1099 will not be provided unless a member receives over $600 annually. If a request is made in writing from ACBL, the unit will comply and a 1099 will be provided.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership
Colleen Bicket reported that the unit now has 641 members. Colleen has sent 15 packets to new players and is contacting those members who have not renewed their ACBL memberships.
The first game in Shawnee will be held on October 7.
Education
A handout was provided that includes eligibility and administration of the Unit 167 Teacher Compensation Program. It was reported that the Tuesday 0-50 points game generally has six tables. Oklahoma City and Woodward are holding bridge classes. Oklahoma City and Norman will begin fall classes as well. Hillary Henry will post the compensation guidelines on the Sooner Website.
Unit Game
The Christmas party will be December 12. The unit game has been down in participants, most likely due to the tournament schedule. The Pro-Am and Lifemaster party dates need to be scheduled.
Social
Kay is anticipating 10 tables for the NAP unit final to be held on August 1. Sandwiches and chips will be served. Phil Rea will direct.
Spring Sectional
The Spring Sectional (May 20-23) will be four days and will host the GNT district finals. The sectional will begin Thursday.
Linda Hughes made a motion to adjourn. Jan Waddle, Second. Motion accepted.
